Black Lacquer Sidepiece

This was damaged from a break-in at the customers home. They pried off the door and all of the drawers despite the fact that the key was in the door keyhole! This will require replacement of the missing pieces, some carving and a finish of lacquer.

Round Table Pineapple Feet

These next 3 items are for a customer in Florida. They came out of a Grandfathers car dealership.

This is a table that goes with the 2 chairs shown below. The pineapple type feet were missing on 3 legs and the wrapping was loose on the strechers. We went ahead and made new feet for all 4 legs and rewrapped the strecher.

1 of 2 Reed and Fibre Chairs

This is the first of the 2 chairs. Many spokes were broken and especally the ones going up into the arm causing the arm to sag further breaking the reed. We replaced 90% of the spokes compleatly from the skirting up through the arm and into the braid. These chairs are mostly reed with only a little of the weaving being fibre.

This chair had the front leg broken and several metal braces screwed to it. We removed all that and replaced the broken leg and added a "sleeve" to give strength to the pieces.

This reed and fibre chair was like the first with many broken spokes and both arms loose because the weavers comming up the side and going out to the arm were all broken allowing the arms to sag.

Here we have replaced a broken leg that had several screws in it [doing nothing] and wire wrapped around. By removing the fibre wrapping, we could remove the leg and make a replacement, then rewrap.

2 Fibre Wicker Rockers

This is one of two matching rockers made of fibre. They are not in bad shape but many of the spokes on the backs have broken. The wire rusted and couls not hold up. We also repaired some areas of the seats and replaced both skirts. I believe the skirts were most damaged by people getting up from the rockers and placing their legs back and pushing the skirt backwards. Some new braid and they are ready to paint!

Rattan Bar

This photo is of one side of the customers rattan bar, part of a set she received from her Grandparents. The cat seemed to think this was a huge scratching post and put several spots like this on the bar, especally on the curved sides. Bad Kitty.

Danish Cord

One of two chairs that the Danish Cord was replaced. As with most seats of this type, the front edge of the frame had worn through the cord over time. To help prevent this in the future, we always "ease" the edges of the seat frame to get rid of any sharp edges.

Seagrass Bar Seats

This is 2 of 3 bar seats that had a plastic seagrass look-a-like seats. They were splint and shredded like plastic grocery bags. They were replaced with braided seagrass. The customers response is below.

Old Reed Rocker

This reed rocker was sent to us from KY. It has spent many of the last years in the barn. The seat side rungs are broken, the front rungs are missing. The reed on the seat area is old and brittle and the rolled arms have areas missing where mice have moved in and made nests.

Here is a phot of the reed rocker stained. We have added missing rungs, replaced the entire seat and about half of the round reed running from top to bottom of seat. Both arms also had repaired areas. The rockers are not on in the photo because it will be shipped and by taking the rockers off, we can use a smaller box to save costs.

Lloyd Loom Type Chair

Here is a Lloyd Loom type chair that the sheet of woven material has broken down over the years. The plan is to replace the entire back/sides with a new piece of woven material.Besides the obvious damage, the material is all dried out and brittle to the touch.

Finished Lloyd Loom Chair

Here is the Lloyd Loom chair with the back replaced with new woven material. This contains the wire core spokes running up & down which the origional weaving material did not have. This probably helped in its break down over the years. now just needs sealing and a fresh coat of green!

Shaker Tape Chairs

Here is one of four Shaker Tape chairs that need replacement. The owners liked the two-tone look of the tape but wanted a change and get rid of the cloth and crumbling foam core under the cloth.

Flat Reed "Shaker Tape"

Here is the finished seat done with regular flat reed and smoked flat reed to give a two-tone effect like the origional shaker tape had. One of four done.

Painted Willow Chair

This painted willow chair has 2 coats of paint, topcoat is white with black under that. The object was to remove the paint and finish it as close to the factory finish as possable. Willow, like reed, furniture can be stripped but very carefully. Then we repaired many broken spokes in the back and repaired the supports in the seat and also 2 of the Ball Feet.

Here is the willow chair finished. After stripping off the 2 coats of paint, we applied a stain very close to the origional color of the piece to cover any areas where the origional color was faded or worn, then a few coats on an exterior clear finish and it's ready for the screened porch.

French or Blind Caning

This is the back of one of a set of chairs with "French" or "Blind" cane. The holes in the wooden back frame do not go through like on the seat. Instead, they are drilled only halfway and each strand on cane is put in individualy using pegs to hold them in place till the weaving is finished.

Wicker Rocker Needs New Back

This rocker needs new spokes and the top section is a mess. Someone tried to repair by splicing pieces of reed where the spokes were missing, didn't work long. The rest of the rocker is in very good condition.

Here is the rocker with the new back in place. As you can see, we replaced all of the back including the spokes running from the seat back up to the top. This was done with wire core fibre and regular fibre blending the new into the old. Just needs painting!

Dyed Fibre Wicker Chair

Here is the finished chiar shown below. The fibre was dyed to match the old remaining finish then the whole chair was clearcoated for added protection without making it appear "new".

This chair is dyed fibre in several colors. Must of the repair was around the cushion area where spokes were missing or broken. Both sides of the arms were missing braid.Picture shows repairs in place using wirecore fibre in the cushion area.

This childs rocker suffered serious damage. Broken frame pieces, missing spokes on the arm and very old and flaking paint.

These 2 items go with the sofa below. Both needed repairs, springs retied, new covers and upholstery and a fresh coat of paint.

Wicker Sofa

This sofa matrches the 2 chairs in the other post. Fibre wicker, the back was pushed out and broken because of frame damage. The frame was repaired, damage rewoven using wire core fibre and colored to match.

Wicker Armchairs

These 2 chairs are part of a set,the sofa posted above. They had a dark but unpainted finish. Both chairs needed repair at the arms and some new braiding.

Hitchcock Childs Chair

This old chair had a natural rush seat and was replaced using a seagrass which looks alot like the rush.

Old Splint Porch Set

Here is a porch set with new, stained splint. The back piece is a porch swing, front left a rocker, front right a chair. Woven with flat reed, stained to give an old look and clearcoated for protection.

Round reed basinett repaired and ready for primer and paint. {remember to use child safe finishes on items like this} 

Settee with new back and braiding ready to prime and paint 

Cane back sofa with new cane installed along with medallion. Ready to stain to match sides. 

New arms where the dog chewed off the old fibre. Center part gets upholstered. I haven't put the tack strips on yet.
